Considering...

...changing the name of the blog to 'good at drinking, bad at life'. Except that as with all good ideas, it's already been used. Not in use now, but who wants to be a blog thief? No matter how accurate. *sigh*

Hope your day is going better than mine. Happy Sunday, poppets.

Ho-hum

Still sans computer right now but I'm hoping to have it on Tuesday if all goes well. Cross your fingers!
Things here are moving right along-I'm starting the countdown until moving day. It's a month away still, but as I pointed out to DD that's only 8 days off. Which doesn't leave a whole lot of time for separating my stuff from Their stuff and then cleaning like a demon. At least I have the where I'm going part sorted out. Much as I am not keen on Snackville, it's going to be good. (I hope!). The house will be like living inside a magazine, it's just that beautiful. The dogs (2 of his, 1 of mine) all got along when they met, and I'll save a mint on rent. I just hope that the negative part of my bad-roomie stories hasn't all been me. I've never moved into somebody else's space before. It's always been them moving in with me or is getting a shared space. Oh well-i can do anything for a short period of time.
That's it for now, I have to be up in 5 hours. I just wanted to touch base and say hi. So-- Hi!

I've been wondering...

...how Mike made out in the Bluenose marathon last weekend?

Heh.

So, my dog is passive-aggressive.
I'm not sure if I ever told you about the time I was working on some reports in the living room and he turned his back on me and sighed deeply. He then looked back over his shoulder at me, sighed deeply again and inched farther away-making a rather big production of moving and not making eye contact with me. He did this about 4 times before I finally caved in and have up working in favour of a walk and a belly rub.
He's pulled that stunt a few times, but it's never been so dramatically charged since then. He *is* the master of the deeeep sigh though. He does it better than my middle-sister, even considering her 34 years of experience.
He's been sighing and whining all night. He always pulls something along these lines if he feels that I've been away too much. It's actually counter-productive, considering that I find it entertaining. My guilt level usually runs quite high until I get home and start giggling about his hard-done-by self with his deep sighs and woebegone crying and staring. Then it's all over and it almost becomes a contest as to which of us can out wait the other or which of us will drive the other insane with the crying and whining. (1 guess as to who usually wins the last one!)
In other, not so amusing, news I walked over 30,000 steps today at work getting ready for the long weekend sales event. It's the single biggest weekend of the year in our industry-this is our Christmas-so there are some great deals to be had at the big green machine this weekend if you're in the market for some Stuff. We also carry a wide assortment of Things.
Have you ever noticed that Q-tips are *always* on sale except when you're nearly out and you keep watching for them to go on sale and they DON'T? Even when you watch for weeks on end and you're down to less than half a dozen Q-tips? Yeah. Me neither.
For the record, I love the bargain carts they always seem to have at Sobey's. Quite often they're full of crap that I just don't want or need, but sometimes you hit pay dirt. Tonight I got 6 deodorants for $1.25 a piece. And they don't even stink. I gave 3 to the food bank and kept 3 for me. I felt like a superstar shopper. They were marked down to $2.50 first, then half off. Smoking deal, and I still get to feel good. Win-win for me. Wheeee! :)
That's all for now, my thumbs are getting a cramp. Silliness! Computer shopping next week. I have to decide between a desktop or another laptop. Any suggestions? Email them to me, or leave a comment. I get (and can send!) e-mails, but if there's no return address I can't do anything about it. Feh.
Happy weekend, stay dry!

Factoids.

1. There's nothing like not having a computer to make you ambivalent about your sitemeter rankings.
2. People who decided to browse 10 minutes before a store closes and who continue to do so until 20 minutes after said store has closed are ignorant and selfish and should be kicked in the shins. Hard.
3. Some people in the world are just plain wonderful and make you happy just knowing they exist. Most of these people have no idea how special and rare they are. You should tell them.
4. No Thirstday this week due to my crummy schedule. That stinks.
5. I think I need to do something drastic about my current relationship and I'm a humungous coward about it. But I think it's the right thing. But I have nobody to talk that over with, and I don't want to do anything stupid. I wish I had a real keyboard so I could fill you in.
4. If you know anyone planning to buy a BlackBerry, tell them to get the curve. The full-sized Qwerty keyboard is worth any amount of extra money.
5. I'm glad the comments are working again. I miss you all.
6. A few notes:
-Sean, I hope the studio is coming along for you and that you're still enjoying being back in P'bo.
-L-girl: we should go for a walk some time. The dog would love the kids, and I'd love to see you.
-Chris, miss you.
-V, *hugs*

Happy Friday, folks. And happy long weekend to those of you fortunate enough to not work retail! :)

Yikes

So the laptop fix-it place called back this morning, and the news is not good.
Apparently I spilled something on it at some point and the liquid ate through some guts. It needs new Ram, new memory, and a new keyboard. That's about $400 for those of you playing along at home. Ugh.
I really can't afford to replace it right now, but I'm feeling very cut off from the world-so I'm not sure that I can afford not to. One of the things I've been wanting to comment on us how much EVERYTHING is centred on the whole world being wired. Every TV commercial sends you to their website for info. Political parties point you to the web for news and policy statements.
And don't even get me started about the ubiquitousness of Google. (For instance, I can't go to www.m-w.com to see if that's really a word.). How many times a day do I think, 'hmmm...I wonder. I'll just go Google it...'.
We are so used to the spontaneity of information, the availability of instantaneous knowledge. They say that Canadians are more wired as a group than any other nation in the world. That being said, though, the last statistic I heard was about 65% of us were wired up. That's an unacceptable number, considering how 'necessary' we have made the internet to everyday life. And glibly saying that there are public access terminals available is trite. Most of the people that can't afford a computer don't have cars, or live too far away geographically from their local library. Expecting someone to bus for over an hour to Google for spinach dip recipes or to send a poke on Facebook is silly.
Anyway, enough ranting. It's hard to type on this tiny keyboard, and I have to cut the lawn and go computer shopping. Too much to do!
Have a happy Tuesday, Poppets. :)

Points.

*computer is still broken
*went to Thirstday this week and it was great
*i bought a Furbuster, and does that thing ever work! I love it so far-granted, it's only been a day, but does it ever help Cut back the shedding! I'll keep you posted, in case anybody else is considering investing the $50
*found a place to move in July. It's in Sackville, which is way farther away than I want to live, but it's a nice place, it's cheap, it'd be great for the dog (there are others there for him to play with), and it's cheap. Did I mention that it's cheap and good for the dog? So I'm considering it. We'll see.
*i really want my computer back-i want to post some real blogs. Oh well-soon I hope!
*happy Monday!

Whee!

Another birthday has come and gone; and I have to say that while it pales in comparison to last year, it was pretty good overall.
I worked in the AM, then after 9 hours with no lunch I left early and went home to my dog. :). It was lovely. I was planning to have a nap, but life intervened. DD came by as a semi-surprise for my birthday. It was nice of him, but it kinds cramped girls' night a little bit.
We went to II Mercato for supper, then to the Triangle for a bit. We weren't feeling it, so we headed for O'Carrolls. It was full, so we decided on an adventure and took the ferry to the Darkside and went over to the Celtic Corner for a bit. That was fun. :)
So overall, a good night. Good friends and good music.
My computer is still dead. While it's frustrating to not have it, it is really helping me accomplish more stuff around the house. It's also helped me realise exactly how little free time I actually have, considering how much of it I waste on my computer.
I've taken the dog to Point Pleasant the last two weeks and he loves it. I'm a pretty big fan myself. :). It's one of my favourite things about Halifax. I can't wait for the summer on the waterfront, Shakespeare by the Sea, the first sunny patio Saturday, or outdoor movies. So excited for summer this year!!!
I hope to get my computer back tomorrow, so then you can have a real post. I hope you're all doing well since I can't check your blogs. I miss reading you all!
Happy Tuesday!
